Manuwa, the original Kokoda Village, is about 2 km from Kokoda Station, about 500 m off the Popondetta Road. Accommodation consists of a thatched guest house with a sheltered, attached dining area. The village is an easy 45 minutes walk from the airstrip making it a good place to begin or end a walking tour of the area. Manuwa is located in a flat area that makes walking easy. The village gardens supply taro, yams, potatoes, bananas, beans, pumpkins and other popular vegetables and fruits. Chickens supply their meat and eggs. The village is proud of its cultural dancing group, which will be delighted to perform for you. Advance booking is essential. [Why?] Older people in the village have an excellent knowledge of the various WW2 relics in the area and are happy to show these to interested visitors. Activities • For reasonably fit visitors wanting an interesting day's walk there are treks to Kovelo, Hoi and Deniki villages on the most northerly section of the Trail. • Short trekking to see WW2 relics • Rafting on inflated truck tubes (extra charge for rafting and the transport required) • Cultural dancing group • Artifacts • Climbing for coconuts • Birds include Bird of Paradise, hornbill, etc. • Many butterflies, including Queen Alexander birdwing Cost
