Manuwa, also known as Kokoda Village, is about 2 km from Kokoda Station, off the Popondetta Road.

Accommodation consists of a thatched guest house.

The village is an easy half hour's walk from the airstrip making it a good place to begin or end a walking tour of the area.

Kokoda Village is located in a flat area that makes walking easy. The village gardens supply taro, yams, potatoes, bananas, beans, pumpkins and other popular vegetables and fruits. Chickens supply their meat and eggs.

The village is proud of its cultural dancing group, which will be delighted to perform for you. Advance booking is essential. [Why?]

Older people in the village have an excellent knowledge of the various WW2 relics in the area and are happy to how these to interested visitors.

Activities

• For reasonably fit visitors wanting an interesting day's walk there are treks to Kovelo, Hoi and Deniki villages on the most northerly section of the Trail.

• Short trekking to see WW2 relics.

• Rafting

• Cultural dancing group

• Artifacts

• Climbing for coconuts

• Birds include Bird of Paradise, hornbill, etc.

• Many butterflies, including Queen Alexander birdwing

Cost
There is an all-inclusive* charge of K100 per person per night which includes shelter, food, porter, walks, activities, etc.

*Not included is traditional dancing. Performances must be booked at least two weeks in advance. [Why?]
